Khotokha valley in Wangduephodrang Bhutan: the hidden and sacred valley in Bhutan
We bring about an opportunity to visit one of the very remote and sacred valleys of Bhutan, if you are willing to rough it a bit. There are no hotels here. The trip must be a 4 x 4 trip or a good 5-6 hrs hike from the road head. We organise stays in the village farmhouses or make camping arrangements.
KHOTOKHA VALLEY is the hidden, remote and unexplored valley of Bhutan.
Location : Three and half hours from Thimphu the capital city, located in Wangdue district.
Khotokha is a large glacial valley with few inhabitants and many sacred sites. All the settlements are in the valley floor where most settlements are subsistence farmers and mostly involved in potato cultivation.
Deep inside the pine forests and on top of hills there are sacred monasteries and hermitages.
The valley floor stretches for miles, there are many possibilities for doing trekking with visits to sacred sites, remote villages with scenic beauty.
There are also sites where many drupchus/holy water springs and menchus/ healing water exist dating back to 12th and 13th centuries.
There are also many interesting trek and hike trails through virgin forests to visit sacred sites.
We did a scouting trip and used the help of a hermit who helped and guided our team, but due to time constraints we could only visit a few sites which were near the valley floor.
Many caves and self imprints left by great tantric and Buddhist masters are in the caves.
You can light butter lamps with stone burners in the caves.
