Bhutan Textile Tour
Bhutan has a rich textile heritage. Prior to the money economy textiles were even used as a base for measuring wealth. The textile culture in Bhutan is a well evolved and a developed one. The silk ‘kiras’ (women garments) and ‘ghos’ (men garments) are of the finest designs with intricate patterns, very skillfully crafted.
The knowledge and skills required to create these textiles have been passed down through generations. By utilizing the simple backstrap loom, the Bhutanese people have crafted one of the most advanced and sophisticated weaving cultures.
This tour provides opportunity to explore and experience various kind of textile weaving and dying. You will witness the best known Kishuthara (intricate design silk kiras) from East Bhutan to Yathra (raw silk woolen fabrics) weaving from Central Bhutan. The tour can end with a visit to the textile muesuem in Thimphu apart from visiting the colourful Dzongs and Monasteries while you are on tour.
Day1. Receive at Samdrup Jongkhar.
Arrive from Assam after touring in India. Met and received by Bhutanese counterpart. Complete immigration formalities.
Day2. Samdrup Jongkhar to Trashigang. 180km. appx.6hrs.
Start your drive towards the hills from the foothills of Bhutan and Assam. The drive is a scenic one as you cross many small towns and villages. At about 126km reach Khaling, visit the national weaving center at Khaling. Overnight at Trashigang.
Day3. Trashigang to Mongar. 91km appx 3hrs.
Drive from Trashigang to Mongar, enroute visit an interesting monastery at Gom Kora. o/n Mongar.
Day4. Mongar to Lhuentse excursion. Khoma village. 75km one way. Total about 6hrs.
Drive to Lhuentse, one of the most remote districts in Bhutan. Visit the Dzong at Lhuentse. Visit Khoma village, this is one of the villages which is known best for the Kishuthara weaving in Bhutan. o/n Mongar.
Day5. Mongar to Bumthang. 200km appx 7hrs.
Drive to Bumthang also known as the Switzerland of Bhutan. You again cross many scenic villages like ura, some amazing landscape and cross one of the highest roads in Bhutan at 4000m at Thrumshingla. The drive is through the Jigme Dorji National park. On reaching Bumthang visit the Jambay Lhakhang monastery and the town. o/n Bumthang.
Day6. Bumthang to Gangtey via Trongsa. 188km appx 5.3hrs.
Visit Chumey where the Yathra fabric is woven, this is enroute to Trongsa. At Trongsa visit the Dzong which is one of the most impressive Dzongs in the country. o/n Phobjikha/Gangtey.
Day7. Gangtey to Thimphu. 133km appx 5hrs.
Drive to Thimphu via Punakha. Stop for lunch at Punakha and visit the impressive Punakha Dzong which is built at the confluence of two rivers. o/n Thimphu.
Day8. Thimphu to Paro. 65km appx 1hr.
Morning sightseeing at Thimphu, visit the Textile muesuem in Thimphu and later drive to Paro. Visit some sights at Paro. o/n Paro.
Depart for Delhi, Bangkok, Singapore, Kathmandu.
